Founder of The Movment Guru

Brent has had a life-long passion and appreciation for movement and the outdoors. Some of his earliest memories are of hiking with his parents in the mountains and collecting rocks on the trails. At 14, after having climbed a number of prominent peaks with the Scouts, his dad invited him to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. Reaching the summit (pictured on the home page of this site) left a profound impact on Brent’s life that he still contemplates to this day. It inspired him to seek new challenges and instilled a deep reverence for the natural world. Since that time, he has continued to bag dozens of peaks, actively trains for marathons, and is an avid martial artist.

Brent has earned both a Bachelor and Master of Science in Kinesiology (study of human movement) where he gained a solid foundation in the motor behavior, biomechanics, physiology, anatomy, psychology, and even philosophy of movement. For his graduate studies he specialized in motor behavior and gerokinesiology (movement of older adults), and wrote his thesis on The effects of Tai Chi standing meditation on balance in older adults. He was invited to teach a semester at his alma mater, California State University, Fullerton, before moving up to the Bay where he now enjoys living in San Jose training dozens of clients and overseeing the fitness program for a local senior community.
